ADVERTISEMENTS

Intel is one of the most famous and prominent companies in the world that was started as Integrated Electronics Corporation in California in July 1968. It is the largest semiconductor company that invented the x86 series of micro-processors. Intel’s Core brand is a 32 bit mobile dual core x86 CPUs. The Core brand which was launched in 2006 is of two types called “Duo”(has a dual core) and “Solo”(has a dual core but one core is disabled). This is the first processor of Intel that was used in Macintosh computers manufactured by Apple Computers. Intel Core 2 Duo is a 64 bit mobile dual core x86 CPUs based on the Core architecture. This comes in four versions; Solo version, Duo version, Quad version and Extreme version.

The similarities in the features between the Intel Core Duo and Intel Core 2 Duo are:
1. Their production process is the same and the architecture used by Microsoft for them is to put two cores on a single die.
2. They have the same frontside bus that communicates with the CPU and the RAM.
3. The L2 cache that Core Duo has is also present in Core 2 Duo too.

The differences between Core Duo and Core 2 Duo are:
1. Intel Core duo has a lower clock speed as compared to Intel Core 2 Duo. This means that Core 2 Duo is faster in performance as compared to Core Duo which was actually slower than the Pentium line of processors.
2. Core 2 Duo offers a better performance while downloading graphics, rendering videos and also, checking a document for spelling and grammar errors (spell check feature). The speed of the Intel Core 2 Duo processor is more than 25 times higher than that of the Intel Core Duo processor.
3. The cost of Intel Core 2 Duo processor is much higher than the cost of Intel Core 2 Duo processor.
4. Intel Core Duo had only 2 versions where as Intel Core 2 Duo has four. Intel Core Duo is now gradually moving out of the market and it will be completed out in a few months.

The benefits of Intel Core Duo:
1. Efficient power consumption. The system performance per watt of energy consumed was very good as compared to the previously used single core processors manufactured by Intel.
2. It offered higher speeds of multitasking as compared to the previous versions of the Intel single core processors in the market.

The disadvantages of Intel Core Duo:
1. Non parallel applications consumed more power than the previous processors.
2. Could not offer support for 64 bit processes.

The benefits of Intel Core 2 Duo:
1. Increased processing capacity of the processors. This helps to multitask easily. You can play music in the background comfortable while downloading any videos and also working on some pictures.
2. Reduced power consumption. This processor is very energy efficient. With Intel Core2 Duo, you can experience increased performance with reduced power consumption.

The limitations of Intel Core 2 Duo are:
The cost of Intel Core 2 Duo is on the higher side. This is the only flip side to this wonderful processor from Intel.
