The fabric used to make the costumes is said to shed water as naturally as skin. Out of the sea or a swimming pool, any water on the surface immediately beads and rolls off. The makers say it takes only a few moments to shake the costume bone dry. The technology works by letting water pass through the fabric, rather than being absorbed into the fabric. Wearers can stretch out on a beach or on a sun lounger without being encumbered by cold, wet, heavy, baggy swimsuits.

The Sun Dry Swim fabric has been developed by Solestrom International, a company which has pioneered swimming suits with built in UV ray protection. The fabric has a mesh around each fabric fibre, invisible to the naked eye, creating a permanent water repelling material without interfering with the fabric weave. This means the material cannot soak up liquid, while the fabric still looks and performs like top quality swimsuit fabric.Amy Hardin, of Sun Dry said: “The nanotechnology treatment, similar to that used to make fabrics splash or stain resistant, is water based and environmentally friendly“Sports wear fabrics that repel water seems like an unusual concept at first, but it really makes sense - why would you want a bathing suit that absorbs water, holds it next to your skin, and stays wet for a period of time?” She said the costumes were a particular boon for children. She explained: “They are ideal for children who are in and out of water at the beach or pool all day.”
