No this is not some wild contraption from some Anime show, or even a gaudy insect transformer form some abhorrent American cartoon production. This creation is the brainchild of an Ibaraki man who spent 11 years building this amazing and authentically functioning robot. It spans eleven meters long, weights fifteen tons, is controlled through a cockpit, can carry passengers and has a remote control option. But where are the lasers and missile launchers? Unfortunately this beast is a docile transporter, but seriously, was there any doubt that the the best robots come from Japan.
This iconic rhinoceros beetle or as the Japanese say “kabuto-mushi” was a recent feature on the Japanese TV show “Nanikore Chin Hakkei”. It’s not a true free standing robot, as it “shuffles” rather walks. The legs pull and push it along the ground, while the consequential weight is supported by wheels. But no matter how you see it, the Kabutom MX-03 is one awesome piece of technology.
